For over 50 years the Pappas name in Southern Minnesota has meant one thing, Great Food.

The tradition started with Michael Pappageorge, a man who had traveled from Greece just after the turn of the century to pursue a new life in America. Not many years later, while in Chicago, he changed his name from Pappageorge to the name we are all familiar with , Pappas. He was the man who started the first Pappas restaurant and the tradition has continued for many years.

From Michael’s in Rochester, to the Michael’s of the 60’s and early 70’s in Mankato, the Pappas name holds many memories of excellent food, service and most of all, good times. In 1982, Jay T. Pappas and a partner opened Maggie’s Cafe and Saloon where he carried on the Pappas tradition here in Mankato. Working side by side for 25 years , Jay and his son Jay C. Pappas ran a successful and memorable establishment, but to many customer’s dismay, it was sold in May of 2006.

After just over a year out of the restaurant business, Jay C. Pappas was approached with the idea to go into business for himself, as a restaurateur. On September 4th, 2007, he opened Pappageorge Restaurant and Bar (named after his great-grandfather, Michael Pappageorge).

As a 4th generation restaurateur , Jay (Flip) Pappas knows what it takes to run a successful establishment. He and his staff are committed to making it the best dining experience possible. At Pappageorge, we always start with the best product, and  prepare it with care and creativity.  Our goal is to present it, along with the best service and a fun manner, in a comfortable and casual atmosphere.
